The research is showing that by incorporating and practicing G.E.M (Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness) into our daily lives, we can positively impact our mental health
But how can diet play a role in improving mental health?
There is a good evidence to suggest that a healthy dietary pattern (particularly the Mediterranean-style diet) made up of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, extra virgin olive oil, and fish can promote brain and mental health.
We are also learning more about the benefit of having a diverse and healthy gut microbiota in regards to our mood and mental health. The link between our gut & our brain is strong.
The best advice is to include plenty of fibre and colourful plant foods in your diet, and aim to limit “discretionary foods’’ (ie. Processed foods, refined sugars).
